You choose it - Essay Example The large cornfields in the valley areas can no longer support the ever increasing population of America without having to be mechanized. This will also require the use of modern technology like genetically engineered seeds and use of fertilizer and herbicides. The documentary also shed more light how the method of manufacturing has changed from the dependence on primary raw material to recycling of used products. The same is also true of the migration from the use of transistors and capacitors to very small microchips (Kwon, 2012). The power grid can no longer be controlled manually, most of it is now computerized from the steam turbines, nuclear power and hydropower. The road, railway, sea and air transportation network ensures that finished products can reach the desired destination with ease and faster (Artkinson, 2012). This require individuals who plan to work in this dynamic system to be equipped with the best knowledge to help meet the demands of such economies. This explains the recent emergence of many technological research institutions as well as university research across the country. Many universities now offer very specialized courses that enables the labor force to be equipped with knowledge that can work with the automated manufacturing and engineering process. However much an economy can automate its production process, there will still rise a need to train personnel to work with the system. Automation according to Yul Kwon, is the next step towards competition in the global sector as it minimizes production cost. The other sector that can still employ labor that will be displaced from employment due to process automation can always be absorbed in the service industry and primary sectors. While everything portrayed in the documentary is true, Yul Kwon does not get the views of many other farmers who are now starting to move

The Reasons for the Popularity of Plastic Surgery in Recent Years Essay Example for Free
The Reasons for the Popularity of Plastic Surgery in Recent Years Essay Outline: a. Children Should /Should Not Be Left Fortunes Nowadays, whether children should be left fortunes has been a controversial issue. As far as I am concerned, children should not be left fortunes for the following reasons. First of all, children may be extravagant with the money that is left to them. Secondly, children were too small to have a right value of money. Finally, children can really experience life from pressure. All in all, itââ¬â¢s more wise that children should not be left fortunes, which may make children really experience all aspects of life. b. Books or Films should be censored As our society become increasingly complicated, books and films also have been affected in their contents. Because of the existence of some harmful information, books or films should be censored. In the first place, people in reality will be affected in their conducts by the violence in books and films. Besides, censorship is a necessary step to protect children from those harmful things. In addition, censorship also do good to our society. To sum up, many people will benefit from censorship. Therefore, books or films should be censored. c. Peopleââ¬â¢s Worth Is Shown in the Reward they Earn Different people vary in the points of view on peopleââ¬â¢s worth. For me, peopleââ¬â¢s worth isnââ¬â¢t only shown in the reward they earn. First, there is no doubt that the reward they earn is a part of their worth. Besides, what they have made to contribute to society is the important part to show their worth. All in all, peopleââ¬â¢s worth is shown not only in the reward they earn but also in the contribution they make to our society. d. Opportunity and Resolution Is the Key to Success As we all know, success depends on various factors. Among them, I think opportunity and resolution is the key to success. First at start, opportunity can lead you to success because opportunity always waits for people who have prepared well. Then resolution will promote you to put into practice, which can make you become closer to success. In a word, although there are many other factors would affect success, opportunity and resolution still is the key to success. e. Yuanming Yuan (the Round Bright Garden)Should or Should Not Be Restored Yuanming Yuan, as our great historical relics, has been destroyed many years ago. I strongly hold that it should be restored. First, it should be restored in order to remember the humiliation we have suffered. Second, we should educate our descents though this. Whatââ¬â¢s the most important, itââ¬â¢s the great masterpieces of our ancestors and bears our cultural relieves. All in all, we should definitely rebuild our Yuanming Yuan. f. Clothes Make a Man or Cosmetics Make a Woman People are not always perfect. But to some extent, clothes make a man or cosmetics make a woman. First, people can cover their weaks through proper clothing and make-up. Then what they wear and look like can embody their inside. In a word, appropriate clothing and make- up make people. Composition: g. In recent years, plastic surgery has been very fashionable, especially among young people. They think it is important for their sense of self-confidence regarding their appearance, or in getting a job. What is your opinion about plastic surgery? Please write an essay on the following topic. The Reasons for the Popularity of Plastic Surgery in Recent Years In recent years, plastic surgery has become very popular especially among young people. The motive of people who accept plastic surgery varied. But in my opinion, there are two main reasons for the popularity of plastic surgery in recent years. In the first place, it can enhance their sense of self-confidence regarding their appearance. Because we all know that people who will do plastic surgery are often not satisfied with their own appearances. The effect of plastic surgery cannot be underestimated, which would really improve oneââ¬â¢s thought to their appearance. A good appearance will make people feel confident to everything. Besides, plastic surgery can help in getting a job. In such a crucial society, a good appearance can help in some kind of work. Although we thought it is unfair, this phenomenon still exist in our society. We canââ¬â¢t deny it but to enhance ourselves. From what have been listed above, we may reasonably arrive at the conclusion that plastic surgery really dose help in many aspects. But I hold that beauty is only skin-deep, and we should try our best to become a competent and well-trained person.

Evolution in Skyscraperââ¬â¢s Design Essay Example for Free
Evolution in Skyscraperââ¬â¢s Design Essay The term skyscraper in early times was commonly used in marine services to describe the high erected mast of a ship. This term was coined later to refer to storey buildings. Previously the term referred to very tall buildings of ten to twenty storeys but in the recent past the term now includes high-rises of forty to fifty storeys or even more. However, for a building to be termed as a skyscraper, it should be distinct from other surrounding buildings in its striking feature of high elevation and markedly affecting the normal view of skyline when looked across through its high rise due to its obstruction (Moudry, 2005 pp. 16-18). Evolution of skyscrapers Evolution of skyscrapers can be traced back to early Babylonian civilization with the Tower of Babel erected in the Babylon which was the first city to be established after great flood as it is given in the Biblical narrative, historical context and other extracanonical sources. Down the line, there has been erection of some tall buildings in different cities of the world but have not been such remarkable as those from the beginning of nineteenth century. Prior to this time, relatively tall buildings used to exist that basically employed use of masonry as the oldest material. The 19th Century structural system technological developments have been hallmark to the emergence of super tall buildings in the world. These new advancements from masonry which were the oldest material all through steel work era to use of composite construction have seen the erection of super tall buildings such as the Petronas Towers and the Jin Mao building that we see today. The City Hall in Philadelphia is the tallest masonry building in the world. It is 167 M (548 ft). It was completed in 1901 using masonry bricks and stones. But this technique could not easily allow construction of super tall buildings seen in todayââ¬â¢s world because stone and bricks heavy weights were the limiting factor. The first skyscraper was steel- framed ten storeys known as Your Home Insurance Building in Chicago built by Illiam Le Barion Jenney, an engineering officer in 1885. Your Home Insurance Building was among the first buildings to use metal for support. After some sixteen years later, the first concrete 15 storey skyscraper known as Ingalls Building in Cincinnati, Ohio was erected by Elzner, O. A. It had integration of twisted steel bars with concrete as frame with slabs and concrete exterior walls (Haverstock et al, 2000 pp. 105-108). This was a remarkable stride in the realm of construction by 20th Century. However, more improvement in concrete technology has continued to be realized. The innovations of lightweight concrete material enable construction of tall buildings. The One Shell Plaza built in Texas in early 1970s which has 52 stories is a good example of tallest lightweight structure in the world. It can be observed that from early skyscrapers constructors, the technological evolutions were partly necessitated by the dictates of human needs such as residential and office apartmentââ¬â¢s architectural arrangements so as to meet people needs wholesomely (Wright, 2007 pp. 77-80). Structural developments have even made it easier to meet these increasingly new demands by innovation of framed tabular structural systems. This has facilitated construction of many stories building. This is because they give three-dimensional robust framework that is able to resist mechanical stresses and compressions. Presently, skyscrapers constructions make use of steel; reinforced concrete, granite and glass. Many of skyscrapers in ancient times were found in parts o f Chicago, New York and London towards close to 19th Century. Today, skyscrapers are not limited to these regions alone, but are found even in Asian continent. In the New York City, at the beginning of 20th Century it was the center of the Beaux Arts architectural movement that made it so progressive having been graced with great architects that enabled it to be land of outstanding skyscrapers in the world. It is generally observed that skyscrapers since the past were associated with elements of nationââ¬â¢s power and economic status. This is because the nature of super tall building built largely depends on the financial capabilities, technological advancements and man power which reflects nationââ¬â¢s supremacy and hence its pride. In about last two decades skyscraper designs are taking latest architectural designs that include former designs but with characteristic features of the geographic elements of where these structures built such as cultural designs like Arabic arts as exhibited in Burj Dubai skyscraper which is yet to be completed. It is evident that, apart from innovations in structural system, geographical changes also markedly did affect the evolution of skyscraper designing especially in twentieth century. Early architects of skyscrapers as it can be seen in World Trade Center, as an example, assumed geometrical shapes like that of a box.

Acid Rain Causes, History, and Effects
Acid Rain Causes, History, and Effects Crystal Mullen Acid rain is a form of rain that consists of droplets of that are abnormally acidic due to the pollution in the air particularly the extreme amounts of nitrogen and sulfur released by cars and industrial factories (Briney, 2014). While it is usually in the form of water droplets, acid rain can also occur in form of fog, snow, or even increments of dry materials that may settle within the environment (National Geographic, 2014). Acidic deposition, or acid rain as it is more commonly known, manifests either wet or dry. Wet deposition is precipitation in any form that takes acids from the air and distributes them onto the Earthââ¬â¢s surface. Dry deposition, on the other hand, are polluting gases and particles that attaches to ground through smoke, dust and a lack of rain. Although the dry form is a dangerous form of deposition, wet deposition is actually more dangerous because the rain eventually washes pollutants into lakes, streams, and rivers (Briney, 2014). Furthermore, natural causes such as erupting volcanoes and rotting vegetation can release chemicals that can create acid rain. However, acid rain primarily falls due to human activities such as coal-burning power plants (National Geographic, 2014). The electric and coal burning based gases that form acid rain were first introduced in large amounts into the atmosphere during the Industrial Revolution, In 1852, Robert Angus Smith, a Scottish chemist was the first to discover the relationship between the atmospheric pollution in Manchester, England and the corresponding acid rain (Briney, 2014). Although acid deposition was discovered in the mid-1800s, this discovery did not begin to be common knowledge in the general public until the 1960s. In 1972, the term ââ¬Å"acid rainâ⬠was coined. The general publicââ¬â¢s attention toward acid deposition increased in the 1970s when reports published by the New York Times revealed problems occurring in New Hampshireââ¬â¢s Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (Briney, 2014). There are quite a few negative ecological effects to acid deposition. One of the more prominent effects is its impact on streams, lakes, wetlands, and other water-based environments. This is because acid deposition, acidifies the waters so that the water would absorb aluminum and then blend in with the soil found around streams and lakes. This toxic combination makes poison the aquatic animals such as clams, fish, and crayfish, clams (National Geographic, 2014). As this acid based liquid flows into streams, rivers and oceans, it does become diluted. However, over time, acids will accrue and then lowers the overall pH of the body. Furthermore, acid deposition causes clay-based soils to release magnesium and aluminum which, in some areas, further lowers the pH. The drop in pH can indeed be significant because if the lakeââ¬â¢s pH drops below 4.8, the plants and animals surrounding that body of water could die. The estimated 50,000 lakes that are in the United States as well as Canada are at risk because they have a below normal pH (about 5.3 for water). Sadly, the pH found in several hundred of these lakes are too low to support any plant or animal water-based life (Briney, 2014). Although some species can withstand the effects of acid deposition, our interconnected ecosystem means that even non-aquatic animals, such as birds are affected by acid deposition (Briney, 2014). In addition to streams, rivers, and oceans, acid rain can substantially impact forest regions. As the acid rain falls on the trees, the trees are then prone to losing their leaves, suffering bark damage, and stymied growth. When these parts of the trees are damaged, it makes these trees prone to disease as well as vulnerable to insect infestation and extreme weather. Furthermore, when acid falls on a forestââ¬â¢s soil, it kills microorganisms in the soil, disrupts soil nutrients, and possibly even cause calcium deficiency. Finally, trees that are at high altitudes are vulnerable to damage caused by acid-based clouds because the acidic moisture in the clouds blankets these trees (Briney, 2014). Although acid rain damage to forests is seen all over the world, the cases of acid rain damaged trees that shows most damage are found in Eastern Europe. In Poland and Germany, about half of their forests are damaged. Switzerland also has at least 30% acid rain damage in their forests (Briney, 2014). Acid deposition has even impacted art and architecture because of the acidââ¬â¢s ability to corrode certain types of materials. As acid rain falls on buildings (particularly buildings constructed with limestone) the acid reacts with minerals found in the stones and sometimes causes the building to wash away and disintegrate. Furthermore, acid rain can corrode cars, modern buildings, airplanes, railroad tracks, steel bridges, and even pipes below and above the ground (Briney, 2014). Thankfully there are quite a few steps taken today by various government agencies to reduce nitrogen and sulfur emissions. Many governments now actually require energy producers to clean their smoke stacks by using scrubbers that can trap the pollutants before they are released in the air. Furthermore governments are also mandating catalytic converters to be installed in cars to lower their emissions. Finally, though certainly not exhaustively, alternative energy sources, such as solar plants and windmills are gaining more prominence so government funding is being administered for the restoration of ecosystems that have suffered acid rain damage worldwide (Briney, 2014). This is great news for our environment. Iââ¬â¢m sure that more funding, as well as private sector support will continue to work to restore the ecosystem from the damage caused by acid rain. Conclusion As far as I know, I have never personally suffered adverse effects due to acid deposition. Unlike Kimberly from Diffââ¬â¢rent Strokes, I never had green hair from washing with rain water. However, I wouldnââ¬â¢t want to wait until my hair ââ¬â or skin was green, before taking action to improve our environmentââ¬â¢s air quality. Furthermore maintaining higher levels of air quality ensures Iââ¬â¢m not vulnerable to the dry form of acid rain and have to battle asthma or other breathing issues. Finally, Iââ¬â¢m thankful that we are now fighting acid deposition because protecting air quality, which in turn protects water quality, means my six-year-old nephew will have a greater chance of living a long and healthy life without asthma, indigestion due to tainted water or green hair. I hope the measures to reduce acid rain continue. References Briney, A. (2014). Acid Rain The Causes, History, and Effects of Acid Rain. Data Encryption Essay -- Data Security
Missing Chart Encryption Encryption is a method of programming data for security so that it appears to be random data. Only the people sending and receiving the information have the key to decrypt the message, which will put it back into its original form making it readable. The only people with the key are the people who are intended to read the message. Not many people know what encryption is. I took a survey of twenty students and asked two questions. The first question I asked was do you know what encryption means and the second question I asked was have you ever heard of anybody using encryption. This is a chart of the information I received: Many people wonder exactly how encryption works. People think that encryption is the same thing as coding when in fact it is very different. Computer code is used to create software while encryption is used to disguise a message from the public. Coding such as ASCII and EBCDIC are used to create data that is publicly shared. With encryption, when you first put in a message, its goes in as plaintext. Plaintext is the text in its original form when it has not been encrypted. A message that has been encrypted is known as ciphertext. The process of converting plaintext to ciphertext is known as encryption. The process of changing ciphertext into plaintext is known as decryption (Parsons 328). In order to encrypt a message you need to use a cryptographic algorithm key. A cryptographic key can be a word, phrase or number that has to be known in order to encrypt or decrypt a message. Caesar created his own encryption method known as simple substitution. His encryption was to change the alphabet to start with D and continue with the alphabet from there. When he reached... ...n use your private key to encrypt them. It is basically the safest way to send e-mail. As I mentioned before, most people believe that encryption is a very complex process when in often it is very simple. Weak encryptions such as Caesars simple substation method prove how simple encryption can really be. Strong encryption can be nearly impossible to crack. You need a special computer and it can take a long time to figure out the message. Encryption such as the PGP method, are used to keep privacy through e-mails. Overall, encryption is mainly used for privacy and protection in all types of situations. Works cited Parsons, June Jamrich, Dan Oja. New Perspectives on Computer Concepts 8th Edition. prom :: essays research papers
Teenagers today are spending more and more money on the extravagance of prom. The article by Jeffery Shaffer claims that high school proms have become an ââ¬Å"exercise in the celebration of extravagance and indulgence.â⬠In this article negative ideas and, inappropriate messages are conveyed to teens. Many of the ideas proposed in this article are eccentric, turning school tradition into competition of unlimited spending. Although the price for prom according to Shaffer has reached ââ¬Å"more than $1,200 per coupleâ⬠and assumes ââ¬Å"itââ¬â¢s the same or higherâ⬠, the price for prom in present years is beginning to near $2,000 a couple. Even with most high school students believing that it is worth it because of the great time they will have and the memories. From personal experience this year my friends as well as I are spending almost $700 on the entire prom event, for just our selfââ¬â¢s. This includes everything from dress, shoes, to limo and post prom events. The average high school student does receive financial help from their parent, opposed to in 1925-26 when ââ¬Å"girls were not allowed to borrow money from the officeâ⬠. Showing the negative side of the expense for prom to teens could discourage them from going and have a great last high school experience. Causing them to later regret in life, such as three of my best friends who decided not to go to their prom last year but instead go to Six Flags. By reading this article teens might decide not to go to their prom thinking they wonââ¬â¢t regret it, when most of them will after sitting home while everyone is out. Many people such as Jeffery as well as myself that have ââ¬Å"never been very interested in the party sceneâ⬠can still have a great time at something that would be filled with such great memories. If teens read something like this they might say to themselves ââ¬ËI fit into that categoryââ¬â¢ and intern miss out on a fun filled night. Prom to most high school students is just an all night event of hanging out with friends and dancing, with an expensive price tag. If teens that feel they fit into a category such as this they should look at it as a night of just hanging out with friends. If they do that such as I did they wonââ¬â¢t miss out on their last high school experience, and wonââ¬â¢t have any regrets.
Lessons Learned from Nathaniel Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter Essay
Lessons Learned from The Scarlet Letter à à à à The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is considered by many to be a classic novel. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne provides his audience with a real sense of the consequences of unconfessed sin, isolation from society, and the presence of evil everywhere. Through his portrayal of the main characters, his choice of setting, and his implied moral lessons, he teaches lessons that must be learned for humans to continue living in harmony with one another. à The setting of The Scarlet Letter provides a powerful connection between fact and fiction. Events such as the Salem witch trials, which occurred not long after the events of The Scarlet Letter, establish credibility for Hawthorne in that recounting historical details such as fear of witches makes him seem like he actually knows what he is talking about. Hawthorne's writing style has made him "one of the most widely read nineteenth century authors" (Jacobson 4). He upholds Puritan values and concepts while employing the classic allegorical characters of romanticism. One such Puritan value is that the devil resides in the forest. Anytime characters in The Scarlet Letter enter the forest, it is certain that something terrible just happened, is happening, or will happen soon. One such example is when the governor's sister, who is suspected of witchcraft, enters the forest and invites Hester to go with her. It is this woman who represents the idea that evil exists everywhere, especially among those who refuse to acknowledge its existence. Salem is a particularly intriguing setting because of its witch infamy. The occurrence of the witch trials in Salem creates an atmosphere where the evil and the right... ... Hawthorne's allegorical approach at real life situations provides his readers with a sense of accomplishment: a sense that if they learn lessons from others, then they will not have to learn from first hand experience. Although on the surface it may seem like another tale of Puritanistic virtue, The Scarlet Letter is the embodiment of life itself. After reading this novel, one may find that many events in real life today can relate directly to events in The Scarlet Letter. à Works Cited and Consulted: à Chase, Richard (1996).
